Default Final Fantasy XI - 05-14-2008, 05:35 PM

Final Fantasy XI

This is a MMORPG well worth an article on Trik. Created by Square Enix in 2003, this Final Fantasy game is like none other you have ever played. It's graphics are quite good, about the same as World of Warcraft. This Final Fantasy does not center around any other Final Fantasy characters. So there is no Cloud, Cid, Yufie, or any other Final Fantasy characters you have met. This game takes MMORPG gaming to a whole new level. You start off with your choice of race, job, and starting home. The races in Final Fantasy XI coincide with what job you want. Here is a list of all the races and what areas in which they are skillful.

Hume: This is a race that is well rounded. They are neither good, nor bad in any of the areas. In actually game play though, Humes are mostly limited to up close combat.

Elvaan: This is a race of agility, dexterity, and strength. Elvaan characters are not the strongest race, but they are definatly strong. They are also quick, and good for up close combat.

Galka: This is definatly the "tanker" of the game. Resembling a all male gender of sort of apes, these guys are able to take massive damage, and are the strongest race in the entire game. However, they are limited to up close combat, as they lack in the field of magic.

Mithra: These cat-like creatures are very quick. They are the best character for short quick attacks, but cannot take much damage. I would not trust these crafty cats around your wallet.

Taru-Taru: Very small, but very mighty. These little guys are experts in the field of magic. They are the best mages in all of Final Fantasy by far. They can't take a punch though. And are mostly limited to staying back and blasting creatures with magic.

Here is a list of the jobs available in the game.

Warrior: The melee fighter of the game. They are well balanced in attack strength, and defense.

Monk: Quick, with lots of HP and strong. Good in defense, but not the best.

White Mage: This job is the healer of the group. They can also cast spells that raise players stats such as Protect. A spell that raises a players defense for a limited time.

Black Mage: A job that uses it's magic abilities to do great amounts of damage. They can do one of the most damage dealing things in the game, yet can't stand and fight as they lack in defense.

Red Mage: This job is a combination of black mage, white mage, and warrior. However, they cannot do all the spells a black and white mage could do, and they learn them later.

Thief: Very quick attacks that do a smaller amount of damage. They do not have much defense.

Those are all the jobs you can choose from at first starting the game. But once you reach level 30, you have the choice of doing quests to get the jobs Dark Knight, Paladin, Dragoon, Bard, Beastmaster, Ranger, Summoner, Samurai, Ninja, Blue Mage, Corsair, Puppet Master, Scholar, or Dancer.
The way the battle system works in Final Fantasy is also unique. Depending on the weapon you chose, your character has a delay time between attacks. Meaning that you attack once, then wait until your delay is up (usually around two-four seconds) then attack again. It automatically attacks once your delay is up. If the weapon you have is larger the more delay time you will have. So a regular dagger at around level 20 would have a delay time of about 200-300, versus a great sword at that level that would most likely have a delay time of about 400-600. The delay time is posted in the weapons stats. Casting magic is different. Depending on the level and power of the spell your character will have to "charge" up for about 2-5 seconds, then cast the spell. Stronger spells take longer to cast. You are also vulerable while casting.

The actual story of the game starts in the place of your choosing. There are four main countries in Vana'Diel (where Final Fantasy takes place), but you start out in one of three countries. Windurst, home of the Taru-Taru and Mitha, San d'Oria home of the Elvaan, and Bastok, home of the Galka. Now it doesn't mean that if you want to be an Elvaan that you have to start in San d'Oria, you can start wherever you want.
The story line gets added on to in each expansion that comes out. The expansion Rise of the Zilart reveals that the Crystal War and the resurrection of the Shadow Lord had been masterminded by the Zilart princes Eald'Narche and Kam'lanaut, who survived the extinction of their race. The two Zilarts plan to become Gods by opening the path to paradise, and the player is charged with thwarting their plans.

Chains of Promathia revolves around the dead Twilight God Promathia, who had originally cursed the Zilart race, and the attempts of various factions to either complete or stop his resurrection. The wyrmking Bahamut is involved in these events, and intends to destroy Vana'diel to prevent Promathia from absorbing the life of the world.

Treasures of Aht Urhgan concerns the Empire of Aht Urhgan which opens up to the nations of Vana'diel. As a new and powerful nation, it is of concern to the nation of the player, who is sent as a representative. The player then becomes embroiled in the intrigues of the Empresses court, and the growing fears of war and darkness coming to Aht Urhgan.

Wings of the Goddess primarily occurs in the era of the Crystal War, 20 years in the past from the main Final Fantasy XI setting. Players discover and cross mysterious time portals, and are led to help the Regal Feline Cait Sith reduce the suffering of the era. The Wings of the Goddess storyline is still ongoing as of 2008.
(I wrote that on Wikipedia myself, so thanks Wikipedia).

So I definatly recommend checking out this game. You can buy the game for Computer, Play Station 2 if you have an old PS2 with an HDD (what I started on before I switched to computer), and XBox 360. You can purchase the games from any local software store like Best Buy.

So join us today! You'll be glad you did.
